Get free Alternative Business Model training to help you give the right information, advice and support to the businesses that you work with.

This training is business advisors, consultants and other business advice professionals such as accountants and lawyers, and for anyone who:

  • Wants to learn more about alternative business models
  • Supports voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations
  • is involved in business support, policy and decision making

The workshops are delivered by BfGWY partners, Stir To Action and Coop Culture, and you can choose from a core introductory module and two in-depth additional modules.

Programme Content

You can choose to do one or all of the three workshops.

1. Introduction to Alternative Business Models

This core module will give you an overview of:

    1. the different legal frameworks that alternative businesses can take, including private, mutualistic and charitable
    2. the less common, more innovative approaches
    3. the pros and cons, similarities and differences to more ‘conventional’ business models
    4. the support, funding and advice that’s available to alternative businesses
    5. the key questions to ask clients in order to find the best business model for them, including:
        • who will own it?
        • who will benefit from its value?
        • who will make the decisions?

2. Governance and Legal Structures

This workshop will give you a deeper insight and understanding of the legal structures and governance for organisations with alternative business models, and help you give more detailed legal advice.

3. Finance

This workshop will give you a deeper insight and understanding of different and innovative ways of financing an alternative business model, and will help you give advice on fundraising and capital finance.
