For Co-operative Fortnight 2024, Holmfirth Tech hosted one of our Business For Good West Yorkshire Co-operative Study Visits, organised BFGWY partner, Stir To Action. They shared the highs, the lows and the challenges of setting up and maintaining a community building as a co-operative. The building had previously been owned and run by Kirklees College as an adult education centre, and was taken over by a group of local people in 2018 who set up a community benefit society.
The Tech team shared the story of how they got started and the business support that they’ve received, their growth model and routes to finance, how they make decisions as a democratic business and how they connect their business model to their social purpose with a group of local people who are interested in different ways of doing business.
